sUAS Training

Northern Nevada CAP members,

The Nevada Wing will be hosting a 2 Day sUAS School for ALL Northern Nevada CAP Members: If you haven’t already signed up, please complete the below survey if you want to attend this training.

We have finalized the dates for this training, April 27 & 28.

 

   Who:             any CAP member (senor or cadet)

   When:           April 27 & 28 (confirmed dates) 

   Where:         Classroom Location    (Hopefully, this central location will work well for NV-47, NV-68, NV-27, and NV-54)

Flight Training Location

    TBD, near classroom.

 

   Uniform:       ABUs for cadets, Polo shirts and gray pants for seniors. 

                           Please bring a safety vest if you have one.           

Please bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, snack, folding chair, clipboard, pen, your folder with blank CAPF-109u, UAST SQTR Worksheet, sUAS ORM, Drone Hours Log, and a jacket.

CAP Instructor Pilot Meeting

Meeting for CFI’s, CFI-G’s and CFI/CFI-G Candidates.

The Nevada Wing Stan Eval team will be meeting on May 4th 0800 at the Reno CAP HQ building. All instructors will be expected to attend the meeting. Instructor candidates should attend as well.

Topics for the meeting will include standardized procedures, mission numbers, best practices and updates on CAP academics. 

We will conclude the meeting before the Mountain Fury course begins.

Mission Scanner Ground School

Mission Scanner Ground School

This is the ground school for Missions Scanner. We want to hit 2024 hard with SAR training. Mission Scanner is the first position in the aircraft to train for and the MS sits in the back seat. The class will be 6-8 hours depending on the amount of questions etc. After the ground school you will be ready to do the flights when the opportunity for those opens up. Mission Scanner is a prerequisite for Airborne Photographer, Mission Observer and Mission Pilot.

We will be doing a working lunch so we can get home earlier.

The Uniform of the day is either polo, corporate, or blues. Polo is preferred.

The Nevada, Utah, California, and Idaho Wings are pleased to announce the Wendover 2024 Glider Academy!

For cadets, this is a great opportunity to take a step closer to achieving your flight goals. The Wendover Glider Flight Academy is a week-long educational flight training experience featuring flying, ground school, and other activities supporting cadets working towards their Private Pilot Wings! 


Who should be there? ​
*(Students) All cadets who will be 14 years old or older on July 2nd, who are interested in flight (ideally with encampment credit) should sign up ASAP before January 15th! 

*(Cadet Staff) Encampment graduates preferably with past aviation experience, who like teaching, guiding, and helping the next generation of aviators!

*(Senior Members) All those who are CFIG’s, Tow Pilots, Winch Operators, or those who would like to volunteer their time helping with the operation of this Academy!

 

Where do I sign up?? 
*Senior Staff and Personnel should use National Cadet Special Activities site

*Cadet Students/Staff should use the National Cadet Special Activities site, search on Flight and Wendover to find the event.

What about student registration?
The 20 student slots will fill up fast and first priority will be given to the top 5 applicants from each of the participating wings (Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and California). Registration cost for students will be $900.00, local flight scholarships may be an option for financial aid for cadets.

Wendover Work Weekend

Work weekend to improve and winterize the Wendover facilities for Encampment.

Come spend a fun weekend in Wendover improving the facilities that will be used for Nevada Wing Encampment. We’ll be painting, stripping & re-roofing buildings, improving the water system, and other upgrades our cadets and staff greatly appreciate during encampment.

Nevada Wing and the Reno Composite Squadron will be conducting an in person and online Training Leaders of Cadets Course.

This will require attendees to complete the online training prior to the course. Courses are available in LMS. Let's do some training! Be sure to register so we know you are available. We need aircrews (mission pilot, airborne photographers), radio operators, and mission staff assistants.

This training exercise is focused on everything ( ground teams, UDF, aircrews, radio operators, staff assistants, etc) in order to train on sending you places and having you do things.

Cadets! You all get FIVE powered O-Flights as part of your membership. This is a wonderful opportunity that all cadets should take advantage of. You have to do them before you're 18, though! Also, you should have your first one before you you've been a member for 180 days. So, preference will be given to those with NO O-Flights yet.

O-Flights are the first step to learning to fly.

You can take an unlimited number of O-flights in the backseat.

Show time is 0830 in the lobby at Stellar Aviation. Please fill out the sign-up sheet below and don't be late! 

Prerequisites:
Aircraft ground handling course (video + test) can be found on the new AXIS learning system after you have logged into eServices:

Menu -> Online Learning -> Learning Management System -> Go To AXIS (it’s a button at the very top to the right of the left hand frame)

2) Soaring Safety Foundation Wing Runner course complete.
