Blinded Veterans Association in Reno

The Blinded Veteran Association is coming to Reno for their 73rd National Convention and they'd like our help! The BVA's convention allows their members to re-connect with friends and learn about technologies that will help to improve their life. We owe these veterans a lot and assisting them through the airport when they arrive is one way we can do that.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Going through airport security many times
  • Walking veterans from the gate to baggage claim and then to the waiting shuttles
  • Assisting with luggage
  • And whatever else they need!

CAP members will be assigned a 4-hour shift during the time period listed. If you are available at all during the event, please sign up. It's OK if your availablitily changes between now and then. We just need people to sign up so the organizers can know what to expect from us.

FIll out the form below and block out a couple days on your calendar for our veterans! The form contains information that TSA will need for screening prior to the event so be accuracte!

August Wing Led SAREX

August Wing Led SAREX

IMG_1233.JPG

Nevada Wing will conduct its annual Wing Led Exercise (WLE) during the weekend of 11 August, with the primary mission base at wing headquarters in Reno Nevada. During the WLE CAP/USAF will review our ability to respond to a variety of objectives, in large part based on criteria currently being redesigned.

Wing will base all scenarios on the assets we report to CAP/USAF, so it’s vital to get our participant listing ASAP to our Resource Unit Leader who will put out a request email shortly. Members not signing up through their units  will not be participating in the mission.

We have seen in the past that the tempo of taskings is not predictable, and we ask that everyone stay patient and ready to respond when the incident staff contacts you. Just as in the practice mission in April no orientation rides will be conducted this weekend, as it takes aircraft and crews additional time to fulfill the ground and air taskings they are given. The primary purpose of the WLE is not training but demonstration, so all mission base positions will be held by officers with the qualification already.

Specific Requests for Participants:

  • Each member in Nevada wing has proven themselves to be professional volunteers that rise to the challenges we are presented, and this year will be no different. Members will ensure they are current in the areas they are participating for the mission, and should double check that they have all required documentation (membership card, 101 card, pilot certificate and medical) before arriving at a mission facility.
  • Aircraft and vehicle managers will need to review the status of the assets they are responsible for and ensure any necessary maintenance is performed prior to the mission.
  • Air crews are asked to review the operation of the navigation, radio, and ELT system in the aircraft prior to the mission, and camera operators need to be aware of utilizing the GPS recoding capability of the camera equipment.

Squadron Senior Fitness Program - Round 3

y6kf8zmhd3mx.jpg

The second squadron fitness program of the year and the third one over all is upon us! We saw some great progress over Round 2 and some end-of-round-sort-of-cheating with our commander getting food poisening - conveniently right before his last check-in...hmmmm...it was good enough for third place!

While we don't recommend getting food poisening, we do recommend eating healthier, exercising, and more importantly making that weight and balance in the aircraft!

So, sign up for Round Three of the squadron fitness program and look forward to fabulous prizes at the squadron banquet in January!

Details

  • Program Administrator: Steve Schnelker
  • Check-Ins: Every regular squadron meeting
  • Process:
    • Mr. Schnelker will take the average of your check-in numbers (BMI, weight, etc) to determine a winning team and the top three winning members.

If you want to be a part of a team then indicate that on the form. If you want to be randomely assigned a team then we'll do that with the members that sign up.

As always, consult your health-care providor before starting ANY exercise program.
